How to Create a Vision Board on Pinterest

The other day I was falling down the rabbit hole known as Pinterest, pinning everything and anything that caught my fancy. I stopped and realized that Pinterest was really just a giant online Vision Board. Unfortunately I wasn’t utilizing this tool as well as I could be. If I wanted to manifest my goals by creating vision boards on Pinterest, I needed to do it more consciously. I had to learn how to create a vision board on Pinterest.

What is a Vision Board?

Vision Boards are collages that represent our goals

Most of us have heard of vision boards, but have no idea how to make one or what to do with them. So let’s start with, ‘what is a vision board’? A vision board is a tool used in manifesting. It is a collage representing our goals and our dreams. Each image symbolizes our objective or the reward for achieving that objective. However, some of the images are steps we need to take to reach our end goal. Vision boards usually have motivational phrases peppered in as well. Phrases to encourage us to follow our dreams and accomplish goals.

When we think of vision boards, many of us think of collages; cutting up magazines, and sticking pages on bristle board. These kinds of vision boards are still used, because they are still very effective. Unfortunately, most of us don’t have stacks of old magazines around to cut up. Therefore, digital vision boards just make more sense. Digital vision boards are also a lot easier to carry around with us, so we can look at them more often.

How Do Vision Boards Work?

Vision boards work by recruiting your subconscious mind. The subconscious mind loves symbols and images, because hey are the language of the inner mind. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then using images conveys a much more complete story that your subconscious is able to interpret.

Your subconscious is always at work. It takes in everything you see, everything you do and everything you say. If you are surrounded by negativity, your self-talk is mostly negative and you do things that don’t make you happy, your subconscious will continue to provide situations that give you more of the same. Why would your subconscious want to keep giving you negative experiences? Because your subconscious does not determine whether something is negative or not. All your subconscious sees is that this is what You surround yourself with, therefore you must want that experience in your life. So it gives you more of the same.

If you want to live a happier, more successful life then you have to show your subconscious what that looks like. To do that, you need to surround yourself with happier and more successful energy. Images are a wonderful way to start retraining your subconscious. To show it that this is in fact the life you want to live. As your subconscious learns what you truly want for yourself, it will start to show you paths that lead to those desires.

Prioritize your goals

How to Create a Vision Board

Now that we know what a vision board is and how it works, how do we create one? Where do we start? The first step in creating a vision board is to make a list of your goals. You can start by just brainstorming. Write everything down. Once that’s done, prioritize. What is really important to you? What do you want more than anything else? Where do you want to see yourself in the future? When you have prioritized your goals, take the most important goal and make a new list breaking down that goal into sections. Possible examples include; Financial and Career, House and Home, Family, Relationships, Health, Travel and Hobbies. Add whatever sections are relevant to you and your dreams.

Once you have  a clear idea of what your dreams are and have them broken down into sections, it’s time to get onto Pinterest and design your vision board. You can do this a couple of ways. You can do one large vision board or you can break it down into smaller boards using the sections you decided on. Pinterest lets you break your boards down into sections now. So you may have a board named “Vision Board” and have sections broken down into “Travel” “Relationships” “Family” and “Prosperity” or whatever is relevant to you.

Fill Your Board With Images of Your Ideal Future

Now comes the fun part. Start filling your board with images. Choose images that represent your desires. You want to look at those images and be reminded of your goals, so that you don’t have to think too much about it. The image should bring your goal to mind immediately. Allow your subconscious to get involved too. What do I mean by that?

If you come across an image that feels right and speaks to you, even if you don’t really know why, include it. It is probably your subconscious helping you out. It’s been cataloguing all the images you have been collecting and has decided that this one is related.

A vision board is a very personal thing. The images you choose do not have to make sense to anyone else but you. You can even choose the private setting on your Pinterest board if you don’t want to share it with anyone. Don’t forget to pepper in some inspirational words and motivational quotes. Anything that helps you see your goal and make you want to work towards it, ought to be included. Looking at your vision board should make you feel good and inspire you. Be careful not to make your vision board too cluttered. You want something that is easy to look at and understand. If it is cluttered and chaotic that is what you will attract, clutter and chaos.

How to Use Your Vision Board

So now that you have this amazing vision board, how do you use it to manifest your dreams? Well, you need to look at it. A lot. You can take a screen shot of it and have it as the wallpaper for your phone or computer. That way you see it every time you pick up your phone or go on the computer. You could even print out your vision board and hang it somewhere that you will see it multiple times day. The important thing is to look at it all the time. When you look at your vision board, don’t imagine it as your future, imagine it as your present reality. If you think about something being in your future, your subconscious will take that literally and ensure that it always remains in your future. So imagine all those things happening right now!

You Have to Take Action

Now here is where most people stop when explaining how to manifest your goals. Unfortunately they are leaving out the most important step. The step where you act! When your subconscious makes you aware of an opportunity to bring your goals closer, you must act on those opportunities. If you dream about your future, make vision boards, say affirmations, imagining your desires as if they have already happened but haven’t gotten off your couch, you likely won’t manifest anything. If you want to create your ideal life, it is time to get off the couch and take action. When an opportunity is shown to you, you have to act on it. All the affirmations in the world will not bring you closer to your dreams unless you take the steps to make those dreams a reality.

Final Thoughts

So to recap, a vision board is a visual tool used to manifest our goals. It can be a physical board, or a digital one. It takes images that represent our desires and feeds them to our subconscious. That way our subconscious can help us find the opportunities to make those dreams a reality. Clear, easy to understand images work best. Allow your subconscious to get involved in the creation of your vision board by following your intuition when choosing your images. Take a screen shot or print it out, just make sure to look at your vision board multiple times a day. Give your subconscious time to really absorb the images and what they represent. Pay attention to the opportunities that present themselves and act on them. Each opportunity will bring you a little bit closer to your ultimate goal.

Good luck with your vision boards. I hope all your dreams come true.
