How to Stay Sane During Covid-19
With the spread of Covid-19, comes the spread of fear. Everyday we wake up and hear more people are sick. More people are panicking and more drastic measures are being taken to try and contain the virus. We are being told that we are in a state of emergency and it is getting harder for people to remain sane during Covid-19. Most of us have no idea how to deal with all of this. Fear and panic end up taking over, and unfortunately that can lead to behaviours such as hoarding, defensiveness and violence.
People are being asked to stay at home and to practice social distancing. Loneliness, boredom, fear, and anxiety are starting to take over. However, it is important to remember that we are not defined by our feelings, but rather how we choose to handle them. Our choices and actions are what matters. It is important for each of us to choose to be kind and generous. To be considerate of our friends and neighbours. To respect and appreciate those who continue to put themselves out there to provide us with the services we need.
We may be feeling afraid and uncertain, but for the first time we are all united. Worldwide, we are all facing the same challenges, which has connected us like nothing else ever has. The question is, how are we going to handle the fear and anxiety? How can we stay sane during Covid-19?

Be of Service to Stay Sane During Covid-19
As I have said many times, the best way to move through our fear and anxiety is to be of service to others. By helping others we push through our own fear. The act of being of service raises your vibrations and makes an inhospitable environment for fear and anxiety. You must make a conscious decision to choose kindness over fear. Choose generosity over panic. Once you have chosen, you need to act on that choice and find a way to be of service.
Looking for ways to be of service? The elderly, single parents and people with disabilities are having a difficult time getting out to get the supplies they need. Ask your neighbours if they need help. Reach out to people who are alone. Do phone check-ins with those who need someone to talk to. Start with your own friends and family. Check in with neighbours. Call local seniors homes and ask if any of their residents would benefit from a phone buddy. Share your skills. Do online videos teaching others or just entertaining them. Start an online group. Start a workout group, a meditation or prayer circle, a knitting group or even a book club. Right now people need to feel a sense of community, even if it’s just online. Therefore, be creative and connect with others. Kindness and generosity is one way to help you stay sane during Covid-19.
#Caremongering
Caremongering groups have popped up all over social media. These groups started in Toronto and have now began popping up all over the world. These are groups where people can ask for or offer help. Just search #Caremongering on Facebook or Twitter to find your own local group. If you can’t find a local Caremongering group try Mutual Aid. There are groups in the UK and US matching people who can help with people that need help.
Keep Busy
Of course most of us can’t be of service twenty four hours a day. It is at those times the fear sneaks back in. So how can we manage the fear and stay sane at those times? One way is to keep busy. If we spend too much time dwelling on the current situation, we will drive ourselves and those around us nuts. Now is a wonderful opportunity to work on ourselves. To learn a new skill and to engage in those things that we normally don’t have time to do. Because of that, I want to share with you a list of free resources to keep you and your family occupied during this difficult time.
